Research Field
Prof. Xie is leading a research group in the state key laboratory of new ceramics and fine processing. His research interests are structural ceramics and their fabrication technologies, including (1) novel gel-casting and precise injection molding of structural ceramic parts; (2) toughening and strengthening of ceramics, like self-reinforcing mechanisms for alumina and silicon nitride ceramics; (3)transparent ceramics and colored ceramics; (4) properties and microstructure of ceramic materials under extreme conditions; (5)study and preparation of inert bioceramics; (6) study and preparation of low dimensional nano ceramic materials; (7) properties and preparation of high-temperature radiation-resistant ceramics; (8) development of porous ceramics and ceramic films for filtration.

Academic Achievements
Professor Xie has recently published a monograph “Structural Ceramics”(2011,Tsinghua University Press). He has issued more than 180 papers in journals home and abroad (SCI 118, EI more than 80). His research papers and achievements have been cited globally for near 1000 times. He has applied and been granted for more than 32 national invention patents. 8 research achievements have passed the appraisal of the national ministry of education.
