SMSE enrolled 19 new international students in fall 2019, including Master and PhD candidates from 9 different countries. The opening ceremony of International Students of 2019 was held in Room A205, SMSE, at 9am, Sep 3rd, 2019. SMSE faculty representatives and all of 2019 international students joined the ceremony. Director of International Graduate Programs, Associate Professor SUN Xiaodan hosted the ceremony.

    During the opening ceremony, Professor LIN Yuanhua, dean of SMSE, extended warm welcome and congratulations to the new students from different countries. After a brief introduction of the newly established IMP-MSE program, Prof. LIN expressed his understanding to the challenges faced by new students, as a Chinese verb says “万事开头难”， it is the first step that costs troublesome. He extended his wishes that students could find the strength in school’s motto “刚毅坚卓”, to move ahead with "fortitude and persistence".

    Deputy dean of academic affairs, Professor SHEN Yang introduced Tsinghua University and School of Materials Science and Engineering from the aspects of history, student cultivation, research and achievements , etc. He explained the supporting system of SMSE, which was to help students better integrate into the campus life.

    Ms. Nina Du & Mr. Hamza Bin Aqeel, on behalf of the 2019 international students, extended their gratitude to be able to conduct their master level’s study in SMSE, as its fame worldwide. They mentioned that the high-level faculty team in SMSE was one of the most important attractions to them and they looked forward to gaining academic achievement and participating in various campus activities.

    In the end, representatives of SMSE faculty and all of the international students of 2019 left their palm prints on the wall of the lobby, hoping for a colorful future to all new students and the school.

    IMP-MSE program is a newly-established master program approved in December, 2018, aiming for nurturing the talents in materials science and engineering worldwide. The program was launched with strong support from Goertek foundation. The first class of IMP-MSE program started in August, 2019.
